Convert MicroMV to Digital

Big memories can come in small packages

If you thought tapes couldn’t get smaller than the MiniDV, you thought wrong. The only thing smaller than mini is micro, and that’s exactly how tiny these tapes truly were – nearly 70% smaller than the MiniDV that was released just a few years prior.

When Sony released the MicroMV in 2001, these incredibly small cassette tapes gave a whole new meaning to the world compact. But while these were a marvel in terms of sheer size, it was a bit too late for a new tape to hit the market. By the early 2000s, consumers were quickly shifting to digital. VHS was dwindling and these smaller, cuter, more portable tapes weren’t doing enough to save the analog tape format. Instead, DVDs were the new kid on the block and would soon be the new king on the block for several years to come.

As a result to being late to the party, MicorMV tapes didn’t last long when they were introduced to the market, and if left unkempt, they’re not going to last much longer sitting in that shoebox under your bed. Why? Because just like every other format before digital, the MicroMV still used the magnetic tape of old, which over time has proven to degrade causing your memories to fade – colors to lose hue and images to blur. Combine that with the fact that Sony was the only company to produce the tape (and they stopped producing these years ago) and you’ve got a limited amount of time and tapes to digitally preserve when it comes to these teeny-weeny home movie masterpieces.

But that doesn’t mean all is lost – far from it. If you’ve got a handful of micros, then we’ve got the digital transfer process to help you convert them to DVD, thumb drive or the cloud. Our qualified technicians handle MicroMV tape conversions every day. So stop procrastinating the inevitable. We’ll send you our crushproof, pre-paid shipping box, and all you need to do is fill it up and send it out. You can even check the status of your order throughout the digitization process so that you know where your tapes are at every step of the way.

You know what to do – stack up your tapes and send them in today. The tapes may be microscopic, but the memories are anything short of monumental.
