30 Things You Should Try Before You are 30

If you’re about to turn thirty, you might be wondering what the best way to commemorate this milestone may be. Well, why not try some new things before your thirtieth year?

Check out this list for some of the best ways to challenge yourself and grow before your thirtieth birthday comes up.

Learn how you benefit from self-care.

It can be difficult to prioritize self-care in your 20’s as you’re going through college and starting your career. Don’t let your 30’s fall into the same rut! Figure out what makes you feel refreshed and renewed, and make sure you practice self-care at least once a week.

Enjoy your town like a local.

If you’ve lived somewhere for a while, the town can start to feel stale after a few years. Be a local tourist and try out some of the most touristy activities in your town and go to the most popular restaurants. Maybe even stay in a hotel for a weekend!

Make a reading list.

If you’re like most of the population, you probably aren’t reading as much as you’d like to. Make a list of all the books you’d like to read and commit to finishing one a month.

Start a collection.

Start a collection of art, music, or something quirky. Collections add whimsy to your home and can give you something to talk about when you meet new people!

Visit Washington D.C.

If you’ve never visited the nation’s capital, it can be a wonderful and educational experience to have. Not only are there some amazing historical sites and artifacts in D.C., but there are also amazing eateries and places to explore.

Take a class on something new to you.

Just because you’re not in high school or college anymore doesn’t mean you can’t continue learning! Find a local class on a topic you’re interested in and give your brain some exercise.

Start a new hobby.

If you’re a busy twenty-something, it can be difficult to keep up with work, let alone any hobbies you may have. If you’re longing for some creative expression, start a new hobby!

Make a budget and stick with it.

Budgeting and saving money only becomes more important as you become older and have more responsibilities. Before you turn 30, get on a budgeting routine that works for you and start reaching your financial goals.

Live in a different state.

It is important to experience new cultures while you’re young, and each city has its own unique mix of people and ideas. Before you turn 30, move somewhere completely new to you!

Get a tattoo or piercing.

If you’ve always wanted a tattoo or piercing, the time to do it is in your 20’s. Don’t let fear or anxiety about the commitment of a tattoo or piercing stop you - just do it!

Raise a puppy.

There are few greater joys in life than raising a puppy that will grow up and be your best friend for years and years. Before you turn 30, get yourself a puppy friend.

Face a fear.

Life is too short to be scared all the time! Do something that puts you out of your comfort zone often. If you’re afraid of heights, go bungee-jumping. If you’re afraid of rejection, go out and try to make new friends anyway. Don’t let fear stop you!

Join a gym.

It is vital to your mental and physical health to get regular exercise, so start the habit of working out young.

Take a cross-country road trip.

The United States has some of the most beautiful sceneries and cities in the world. While you’re still young and childless, go on a cross-country road trip with some of your best friends and experience what this gorgeous country has to offer.

Learn a foreign language.

There’s nothing like learning a new language to sharpen your mental stamina. To stay sharp before you turn 30, start learning a foreign language!

Reconnect with a childhood friend.

As we grow up, it’s easy to disconnect from people who were once important to us. Before you turn 30, reconnect with someone who used to be in your life.

Travel solo.

Traveling by yourself can be a great way to learn about yourself and to experience complete relaxation. It’s the only time you can enjoy a vacation in your own way!

Ask for a raise.

Practice asking for a raise in your 20’s. You deserve it!

Tell someone you love them.

It’s important to learn how to express love and romance in your twenties. If you have someone important to you, gain the courage to tell them you love them. You’ll be glad you did by the time you turn 30.

Learn a new skill.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn to do? Maybe it’s skateboarding, or maybe it’s making latte art. Whatever it is, find a class and start learning!

Rewatch home videos with your parents.

There’s nothing like reliving the past with those you love. Get a little nostalgic for the good-old-days by watching some home movies with your parents and siblings.

Visit your grandparents more often.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your grandparents around in your 20’s, make the most of the time you have with them and start visiting them regularly. You can learn so much from your grandparents - lend them a listening ear every once in a while.

Become a connoisseur of something.

If you’ve been interested in wine, coffee, beer, cheese, or something else entirely, what’s stopping you from becoming a professional? Learn everything you can about the thing you’re interested in and impress your friends with your knowledge!

Find your unique style.

Experiment around with different fashions and find a style that you love and that works for you. You’ll feel good about yourself when you spoil yourself with some new clothes.

Host a fancy dinner or holiday feast.

Now that you’re an adult and maybe you even have your own place, you should host a nice meal for your friends or family! Spoil them with a fancy dinner and show off your hosting skills.

Travel somewhere you never thought of going.

There’s plenty of popular destinations in the world, but there are also tons of lesser known, beautiful places to see! Before you turn 30, travel somewhere that hasn’t been on your “must-see” list. You never know, you may end up loving that place more than the destinations you’ve always wanted to visit.

Get behind a social issue important to you.

Do you love animals, or do you care a lot about the homeless community in your town? Whatever your passion is, start volunteering for organizations that are doing good work near you.

Raise money for charity.

If there’s an organization you love, raise money for them in a fun way! Host a canned food drive or a fundraiser meal, whatever it takes to make some cash for them.

Learn to love yourself.

By the time you turn 30, you’ll have had so many experiences and learned a lot. One thing you should try to learn before then is to love yourself. Self-hatred is much too prominent in our culture, and in order to live a healthy life, you need to accept yourself for who you are!

Take a risk.

If you’re feeling stuck or helpless, one way to jumpstart your motivation is to take a risk or do something adventurous. If you’re unhappy with your job, find a new one. If you are bored where you live, start thinking about moving. Taking a risk is just another way to welcome change into your life with open arms.
