The new year is here and it’s leaving us with lots of emotions. It’s a mix of anticipation and excitement for the coming year, homesickness from the holidays, and thoughts about things you did or didn’t accomplish in the past year. When the clock ticks down to midnight and the ball finally drops, all the worries of last year seem to melt away and the promises of the new year come ringing in.

But we shouldn’t leave 2019 behind just yet!
2019 was a great year for all the new and exciting things it brought into our lives. When you look back onto the new music, films, technology, and events that happened, it’s easy to feel grateful for the past year, even if it was difficult at times. The trends, the people, and the culture of 2019 changed the world for the better in a lot of ways. Let’s all take a look back at 2019 and the neat things it brought us!

The Elton John biopic, released in May of this year, captivated and inspired audiences worldwide. Elton John fans everywhere were pleased with the film, and it was one of the top films of the year.

The Lion King

The much anticipated “live-action” remake of Disney’s The Lion King sported a star-studded cast, with celebrities such as Beyonce and Donald Glover starring in the film. It received great

praise from critics and fans alike.

Billie Eilish took the world by storm this year with her massive hit song, “bad guy.” The catchy beat paired with her soft voice made millions of people fall in love with the young artist.

Old Town Road - Lil Nas X

This catchy rap/country mix was surprisingly one of the biggest songs of the year. The rapper Lil Nas X was played on the radio millions of times, and kids all over the world were completely obsessed with his song. Who would’ve thought that a rap/country song would be so popular?

Water vapor detected on a possibly habitable planet

This year, a distant planet, named K2-18b, was found to have water vapor in its atmosphere. This is a major discovery, as this planet lies within what scientists call a “habitable zone,” meaning that life may be sustained there. Could this mean that aliens may be real, and living on K2-18b?

Giant squid was spotted in the gulf of Mexico

A rare appearance of a giant squid occurred in the Gulf of Mexico this year. Giant squids live in a very extreme habitat, about 3,300 feet under the ocean. This icy environment makes it unlikely for them to venture towards the waves, close enough for humans to witness. This year, it happened.

Apple’s Airpods took the world by storm when they were first released, and their newest update to the product, the Airpods Pro, did not disappoint customers either. This year one of the biggest innovations in cooking technology was the InstantPot. This crockpot/pressure cooker hybrid cooks food twice as fast as a traditional slow cooker and has too many cook settings to list on this blog post. You can even bake a cake or make yogurt inside the InstantPot. Cool, right?
