Let’s face it: traveling with your pet isn’t always the easiest. Your little fur, scale or feather baby means the world to you, so you can’t just leave them at home! Half the point of making travel memories is to do it with your loved ones…and that includes your pet.
So, how do you travel with your pet?Not only do you want travel to be fun and easy for yourself, but you’ll also want the same experience for your pet. Most animals can experience anxiety and nervousness while traveling, so let’s make this experience a safe environment for your pet as well. Here’s what you’ll need:

- Leash and Collar
- Any meds for your pet
- Tweezers - you never know when there might be a tick

Essential Oils
Nowadays, essential oils are all the rave. To be fair, essentials offer a healhty, natural and easy way to help medicated the little things in life, such as stomach aches, headaches, sleep problems and stress. The other perk of essential oils is that it works on your pets too! If your pet seems a little stressed out in the car, or right before a plane ride, provide them with a little of these sweet scents:
- Lavender Oil
- Cedar Oil
- Peace and Calming
- Tangerine
- Ylang Ylang
- Blue Tansy
- Orange
- Patchouli
All of these essential oils helps your pet stay calm, relaxed and peaceful. Turn on an essential oil diffuser in the car, or put a few drops on a bandana and tie it around their neck, or place it in their crate before they hop on a flight!
Chew Toys
Your pet might need to let off some steam and gnaw away at something! Provide your sweet pup with a chewy toy that is good for their teeth and healthy to ingest. Additionally, do the same for your cat! They need to release some tension by taking it out on a cat toy.
Snacks
All pets have a favorite snack and snacks are great distractions from travel! For dogs, pack a bone that has a deep groove or hole, and fill it up with some peanut butter! If you can provide a snack that can also have them work on it for a while, this will definitely pass some time. Give your sweet kitty a little bit of catnip in a hard to reach toy as well.
Block Distractions
Some animals have a difficult time traveling because of the motion and new sights / smells. If you are traveling in a car, try blocking the side windows. This might help your pet from motion sickness and anxiety. If this doesn’t work, crack the car door a little bit, they might want fresh air, especially if they feel confined. If your pet is traveling in a plane, same deal: cover the front of the crate with a blanket so they aren’t stressed by the movement and new sights.
Traveling with your pet will be a breeze! You’ll create great memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t forget to take tons of photos and home videos! If only our sweet pets could live forever! Good news is, old travel memories can be preserved and digitized just so that you can keep them alive forever. Have so much fun with your pet and enjoy creating wonderful memories!
