Fall is in session, and even though it’s the hottest autumn in recorded history, that’s not stopping us from getting into the seasonal spirit! It seems that every local store has Halloween or fall decorations up, and despite the high temperatures, people are starting to wear cardigans and booties in protest.
If you’re feeling the fall spirit like we are, you’re probably dying to get your house ready for the season. If you’re planning an autumn dinner party, Halloween party, or a good old fashioned bonfire, you need the perfect decor to make your guests feel completely immersed in the season, despite what the weather forecast is showing! We’ve got a beautiful, easy DIY for your dinner table that will have your guests feeling nostalgic for apple picking, pumpkin patches, and hayrides.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A selection of apples (pick reds, yellows, and in between colors!)
- Apple cider vinegar
- Melon baller
- Lemon juice, saltwater, or ascorbic acid powder
- Votive candles and a lighter
Step one
Soak all your apples in a bucket or in the sink with water and apple cider vinegar. You’ll need half a cup of apple cider vinegar for every gallon of water you use. This soak will clean your apples and help to keep them looking fresh during your party.
Step two
Using a melon baller, cut out a circular hole at the top of the apples (where the stem is). The hole only needs to be about an inch deep.
Step three
Coat the freshly cut apples with either lemon juice, saltwater, or ascorbic acid powder. These act as preservatives and will keep your apples from browning for at least 8 hours.
Step four
Place the votive candles into the apples and arrange the apples on your table. Light the candles and voila! Your centerpiece is complete.
This beautiful DIY centerpiece will be an excellent addition to the rest of the fall decor in your home. No table is complete without a centerpiece, and your friends and family will absolutely love the simplicity and charm that these candle holders have. Happy fall, y’all!
